Clarinet isn’t an instrument you often hear in electronic music, but it’s a central part of the sound of Digitional the English ambient chamber music band headed up by Andrew Dobson. Along with violinist Samy Bishai, Dobson creates a music of haunting melodies and luxurious moods. Their latest album is Beautiful Broken, where they find a common ground between chilled electronic grooves and the modern classicism of Steve Reich and Arvo Pärt.
The Church and The Psychedelic Furs were two bands who waved their flags high during the New Wave era, spawning hits, critical acclaim and devoted audiences. Now that their classic eras are paste, they seek relevance in the 21st century. One of them does, and one of them doesn’t.

Dieter Moebius was a founding member of influential German bands Cluster and Harmonia, creating a sound that was known as Krautrock and collaborating with Brian Eno. Moebius died on July 20 at the age of 71. We go back to an interview with Moebius and bandmate Hans-Joachim Roedelius from 1996.
