An Echoes Memorial Day Soundscape & Michael Whalen Interview

We remember on an Echoes Memorial Day Soundscape. This is a time we remember those who have passed on the fields of war as well as the towers of terrorism and question it all.  This year, we have even more to remember in the war on the Corona Virus.  So many have been senselessly lost to an enemy we can’t see. Today, I bring you laments, requiems, ballads and a call to arms with music from Loreena McKennitt, The Zombies, Hans Zimmer and more..

Composer Michael Whalen talks about his April CD of the Month, Sacred Spaces. It’s a return for Whalen to his progressive rock roots as he turns a classical composition into a synthesized fantasy. Sacred Spaces is an electronic symphony full of strikingly original timbres and sounds. An overhead photo of his studio shows that Whalen has an insane number of synthesizers, and he must have used them all on Sacred Spaces. We talk about the progressive rock roots of Michael Whalen’s Sacred Spaces
