Monday, July 27, 2026 – Echoes Program 2630A

Today, it’s all about Spotted Peccary Music as the pioneering ambient and electronic label celebrates its 40th anniversary. It has outlasted Windham Hill, Narada, Hearts of Space Records and many more. Artists like David Helpling, Deborah Martin, Chronotope Project, Craig Padilla and Rudy Adrian have been part of a catalog of more than 200 releases, all shaped by the creative vision of Howard Givens and Deborah Martin, the brain trust of the label
Howard Givens: “The goal was to design a sound that left you immersed in the music, not distracted by the fact that it came from a synthesizer.”
The Spotted Peccary is an imaginary creature born in the desert southwest. But it’s the name of a real label, Spotted Peccary music. They’re celebrating 40 years since they came together in Tucson, Arizona. They actually released their first album in 1989, In the Land of Power by Brain Laughter. We’ll be talking with Deborah Martin and Howard Givens about the genesis of the label. In addition, all of today’s Echoes will be music from the Spotted Peccary label. Join John Diliberto on the 40th anniversary of Spotted Peccary Music on Echoes from PRX.

On the next Echoes, music from the flaming guitar duo, Rodrigo Y Gabriela and we’ll hear Lisa Molinaro. A classically trained violist, she was a member of Modest Mouse and Talkdemonic. Her album, Blind Trust, takes a more contemplative approach. John Diliberto is always contemplating on Echoes from PRX.

Lay back on the couch when we hear music from singer-songwriter Benjamin Jayne. When he’s not making vaguely psychedelic folk music, he’s a psychiatrist. He has a deeply melancholy album called Broken. The doctor is in with John Diliberto on Echoes from PRX.

Get ready for some powerful darkness with music by Myrkur. The Danish singer is categorized as Black Metal, but really it’s just darker dream pop. She has an album called Spine. It’s coming up on Echoes with John Diliberto from PRX.
