Ravi Shankar Remembered on his 105th birthday
It’s a journey with an Icon when we celebrate the 105th Birthday of Indian sitar master, Ravi Shankar. His music spanned from classical Indian ragas to films to world fusion. We’ll hear an interview with the legendary sitarist talking about an ancient sound and spirit that helped transform modern music. Shankar died in 2012, but we remember him today on Echoes from PRX.

Awesome…so cool for Echoes to honor him. I saw him at Carnegie Hall w Anoushka back in 2002 …. we had nose bleed seats but oh it was so amazing to just hear him live….in that great hall. As we left the venue….somehow we were right by the stage door when he was exiting. He was tired, and by himself for some reason. We ended up helping him into the backseat of the car in which he was very grateful and kind. He was amazing. a true legend/maestro.
What a wonderful memory for you!
