Brian Eno's Another Green World turns 50.

On the Next Echoes, the 50th Anniversary of Brian Eno’s Another Green World. On November 14, 1975, Brian Eno released one of his best album, Another Green World. It was a departure from his previous two albums, Here Come the Warm Jets and Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy. Eno was heading into a more ambient direction and about half of the album are pure instrumentals. He also used his Oblique Strategy cards a lot. This is a set of over 100 cards, about the size of a business card. Each onw has a set of aphorisms or challenges that help you with creative block. Eno told me one story about the song “Spirits Drifting” where he was in the studio over his keyboard and was in tears because he did not know what to do and thought what he was playing sucked. He pulled a card from Oblique Strategies and it said, “Carry On.” So Eno did and he says it’s one of his favorite pieces. This was the album that moved him out of art rock and into a sound that was totally new and uniquely Eno. John Diliberto takes us to Another Green World on Echoes from PRX.
