Still Driving After 50 Years-Kraftwerk's Autobahn: The Echoes Documentary
It’s the 50th Anniversary of Kraftwerk’s Autobahn. It was released on November 1st, 1974. This German band came out of the same scene as groups like Tangerine Dream, Cluster and Klaus Schulze, but they took a different, more conceptual art work approach to their music and sound. Today, I’ve got the Echoes Kraftwerk Documentary, including a rare interview with co-founder Ralf Hütter as well as commentary by Orbital, Jean-Michael Jarre, Michael Rother, Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark and Conny Plank. We’ll hear that in the next half hour. And in the second hour, I’ve got all of the title track of Autobahn. John Diliberto goes down the Autobahn with Kraftwerk, on Echoes from PRX.
I first heard Autobahn at a friends house that early 1975 .. and I had to get the album since it was one of the first electronic instrumental album that I ever heard . None too later is when I found Tangerine Dream (and Klaus Schulze was with TADream for a while) and I was hooked with electronic music .
Weren’t we al! 😉
