Myrkur’s Video for “Juniper” Wants Your Heart

Myrkur's Haunted Juniper Video

Gothic artist Myrkur, the guise of Danish composer, vocalist and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Amalie Bruun has a new single. The A-side is “Juniper,” which the label, Relapse, calls a ballad. That’s accurate if your idea of a ballad is an imperious screed looking for your heart over slabs of orchestral/electronic chords. The black and white video is pure goth with Bruun’s compelling image shot in the style of Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares To You,” intercut with disturbing images of a child sleeping and standing in the door of an abandoned, house, and variously desiccated animals posed like dolls. It’s a mesmerizing song and video, but disturbing. A note states “*All animals were eaten in the making of this motion picture.” It’s not a warning.
