Women in Wires-An International Women's Month Plugged in Celebration
International Women’s Day was this past Sunday and March is International Women’s Month. To commemorate, we’ll be trekking through women who have plugged in, taking command of their sound and going places beyond music convention with Women in Wires: celebrating Women in Electronic Music. This was a pretty hard show to do 30 or so years ago. Pickings were slim. But now music is full of creative female electronic artists. The documentary, Sisters with Transistors featured many of them in 2021. We’ll hear music from pioneers Wendy Carlos and Delia Derbyshire and contemporary artists including Rena Jones, Azam Ali, Lisa Bella Donna, Sharon Van Etten and more, Plug in to Women in Wires on Echoes from PRX.
