A Concert into Space with Ian Boddy and a New Ambient Music Trio
We set the controls for the heart of infinity when English electronic artist Ian Boddy comes in to play live. Ian Boddy is one of the leading lights in post-Berlin School Space music and modular synthesis. He released his first album on cassette in 1980, and since then he has created a vast catalog of music that sets the standard in sequencer-driven music. Ian composes on a broad landscape, with compositions that slowly evolve, but also take twists you might not expect. Ian also runs his DiN Music label, that has released albums from Erik Wøllo, Surface 10, Scanner and Node. Sitting in a cockpit of synthesizers, he sends the guest bungalow that he’s occupying outside of Philadelphia into space. Grab onto your couch with Ian Boddy live on Echoes from PRX.
Brannan Lane, John Gregorius and Sean O’Bryan Smith come from different musical worlds that range from deep country and western to deep ambience. But they’ve gotten together on an album of lush, ambient flanged instrumental music called Emergence. We gather this trio together to talk about their coming together and emerging out.
