David Helpling Takes Flight in "You Already Are" Video
Here’s a taste of David Helpling’s cinematic, synth and guitar orchestrations for “You Already Are” from his double CD/LP In. The short, animeish film by Joe Abreu with animation and design by Lancing Love Chen, taps into the dramatic designs of Helpling’s music which include looping electric cellist Matthew Schoening. The film and the music tells the story of becoming who you already are.
This is one of several dynamic tracks from Helpling’s In on which he taps a 1980s electronic sound redolent of Patrick O’Hearn among others, sifts it through 21st century ears and ambient guitar textures and spins it into pounding drums and sky-scraping synthesizers. Each song has a story, many of which you can hear in our interview with David on the broadcast of Echoes Monday, April 25 and in the Echoes Podcast on Thursday April 28.
