Electronic Artist Jon Hopkins: A Vintage Live Performance from 2010
Back in 2010, Jon Hopkins came into the Echoes studio to play live. At the time of this recording, he had recently released his album Insides. He’s also been recording with Brian Eno, Leo Abrahams, and the band Coldplay, who integrated a few of his pieces into Coldplay compositions.
Jon came in with a laptop computer, a small keyboard, and two real-time sound-transformation devices called Kaos Pads. He recreated two tunes from Insides, and played a brand new piece called “Amphora,” which was unreleased at the time, but would become the foundation for the Coldplay tune “Midnight,” from their album Ghost Stories. And his tune “Light Through the Veins,” from Insides, was also adapted into “Life in Technicolor,” from Coldplay’s album Viva La Vida. This version of “Light Through the Veins” appeared on Dream Logic: The Echoes Living Room Concerts volume 16.
