Haroula Rose is a scholar among singer-songwriters. That might explain the literary nature of her lyrics and imagery, including the album title of her latest release, Here the Blue River. It comes from a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson. She grew up hearing the Greek music of her immigrant parents but went on to be influenced by singers like Judee Sill, Joni Mitchell and Bobbie Gentry. Her new album is a beautiful, atmospheric and personal release. She comes in to play music from it live.
