New music from Tangerine Dream and Julia Holter
Although Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese died in January 2015, band members have continued with some of the compositions he was working on. The results are a new EP called Quantum Key. Is it Tangerine Dream without a single original member? The new group is the last edition of the band with Ulrich Schnauss, Thorsten Quaeschning and Hoshiko Yamane. All the compositions on Quantum Key, save one, were begun by Edgar Froese, reportedly based on his interest in quantum physics. We’ll hear that and recent music from singer Julia Holter who seems to take an almost scientific approach to her elliptical songs and odd structures. It’s more art song than pop. We’ll hear from her album, Have You in My Wilderness.
