Chad Lawson's Chopin Variations Live on Echoes.
Chad Lawson is a musician with ambient tendencies. He started out as a jazz pianist, veered toward New Age before settling on an approach that is clearly his own voice. On his latest album, The Chopin Variations, he takes the venerated classical composer’s works and turns them into deep meditations by stripping them down to their melodic outlines and playing them on a piano with muted strings. He comes in with a cellist Ruben Kodheli and violinist Judy Kang to play this music live.
