Tuesday October 21st-Echoes Program 1443B

Interview: Maya Beiser
Maya Beiser has been called a cello goddess. She was a founding member of New York’s innovative new music group, Bang on a Can and can be found playing the music of composers like Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen and other giants of modern classical music. But on her new album, it’s classic rock that finds its way under the cellist’s bow. She electrifies her cello with a guitarist’s array of effects and performs Evan Ziporyn’s imaginative arrangements of songs by Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and AC-DC. Maya Beiser talks about her music for power cello.
