Echoes Plays All Cover Tunes Tonight from Prog Rock to Pop Shlock
You’ll Never Hear Grease and Gloria Gaynor the Same Way Again
Everyone is doing cover tunes these days and the best ones reinvent the songs the way Jimi Hendrix did with Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.” So today, you’ll hear music you probably know, but not by the artists you remember performing it. Some of them may surprise you, especially on Echoes. We’ll hear a massive hit from the disco era, a song written by Sonny Bono that was a big hit for Cher in 1966 (and since covered by everyone from The Bonzo Dog Band and Vanilla Fudge to David Guetta and Murder by Death), and music from Grease. Don’t worry, you won’t be hearing John Travolta or Olivia Newton-John anytime soon on Echoes. We’ll also hear songs from the Progressive Rock era by Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield and Brian Eno. And can you do a covers show without playing a Beatles tune? We’ll hear two of them. Many of the songs are performed by Echoes regulars like the California Guitar Trio, Japancakes, Pat Metheny, and William Orbit. Go undercover tonight on Echoes.
And here’s the cover against which all covers are judged:
