Ulrich Schnauss comes to Echoes and plays completely altered versions of his music. Usually in an Echoes Living Room Concert, I talk to the musicians between songs. I even ask musicians who usually play non-stop uninterrupted sets or musicians whose songs are super long, too break it up into shorter, separate units so we can talk. Ulrich Schnauss had played live on Echoes before and done this so I didn’t bother explaining to him again. So as I was carried away on his music I suddenly realized he was segueing into a new piece and wasn’t stopping. Then he transitioned into another one. But rather than stop him, I let him go for 27 non-stop minutes and it was beautiful. You’ll hear why I didn’t take up Ulrich’s offer to redo the set with breaks when you hear it tonight on Echoes. A track from this session will be on our new CD, Transmissions, the Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 19.
