Hear an Interview with Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy on Echoes tonight.
Steve Kilbey is the lead singer and guitarist with the Australian band, The Church best known for their 1988 hit, “Under the Mily Way.” Martin Kennedy leads the Australian ambient rock band, All India Radio. They get together for a song cycle called You Are Everything. We talk to them about their collaboration.
Below, watch a live performance of “I Wouldn’t Know” from Kilbey and Kennedy’s newest album, You Are Everything.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Martin Kennedy: I actually grew up you know, trying to emulate The Church guitar sound. At school some kids played “Smoke on the Water,” but I was trying to play Church songs, which was absolutely cutting edge and underground at the time. And that’s, that’s kind of stayed with me, I guess.
Steve Kilbey: I have a problem with the world at the moment. I don’t believe in evolution. I don’t believe in the theory of evolution at all, yet I also don’t believe in creationism. I certainly don’t believe in Jehovah and the Old Testament.
Martin Kennedy: It was instrumental music for me. Some how I had left room for verses and I’d left room for a chorus. Somehow Steve seemed to navigate his way through the music, but it was just my usual instrumental music.
