Renowned electronic artist Steve Roach talks with Echoes host John Diliberto and musician, author and journalist Linda Kohanov about the evolution of ambient music through his 50 year career of immersion and creation in the ambient realm that has embraced New Age, World Fusion, Space Music and the eternal drone. John Diliberto and Linda Kohanov, who have both been chronicling this music for 5 decades, dig deep into this transformative world of electronic sound with one of its leading avatars.

Ambient Country to Ambient Classical and Beyond
Featuring Michael Rother, Bob Holmes, Mary Lattimore, and John Diliberto

John Diliberto, host of the long running radio show Echoes is joined by Bob Holmes of SUSS and host of the popular podcast Ambient Country to discuss the current state of ambient music- what they call the “Third Wave of Ambient.” They will be joined by Michael Rother, founder of seminal bands like Neu! and Harmonia, and electro-harpist Mary Lattimore to discuss the growth and popularity of ambient music over the last five decades.

Big Ears Festival 2025 takes place March 27-30 in Knoxville Tennessee. Big Ears will be its usual eclectic self this year, but more than ever it’s a gathering of Echoes artists. besides the artists above there is Explosions in the Sky, Anoushka Shankar, Arooj Aftab, Bela Fleck, Beth Gibbons, Beak, Bill Frisell, Chuck Johnson, Immersion, Lara Somogyi, Laraaji, Marissa Anderson, Marissa Nadler, Philip Glass Ensemble, Rich Ruth, and in film form, Brian Eno.
