Florence and the Machine's new video for Big God

Florence and the Machine is known for their haunting, ethereal music, and their new song “Big God” is no exception. Dramatic and emotional, the song features Kamasi Washington on saxophone and was co-written by Jamie xx. The song’s music video features a group of women in colorful robes, led by singer Florence Welch, against a dark background, where they dance in a pool of shallow water. Florence and her dancers move in mesmerizing synchronization to the music, with choreography that highlights the song’s emotionality. One standout moment has the dancers levitating behind a writhing Florence, before landing back down on the floor with a bang as the music crescendos. The video was choreographed by Akram Khan and Florence herself. Florence explained that the song is about “that feeling when someone has not replied to your text.” She says, “I was describing it to someone and they said to me ‘You need a big god’, as if the need in me were so cavernous, it would take something enormous to fill it. Probably something bigger than a text message.”
“Big God” is off the upcoming album High as Hope, set to come out on June 29th.
