2015 began with the unexpected death of Edgar Froese, the founding member of the German electronic band, Tangerine Dream. 2015 also saw the anniversary of two influential Tangerine Dream albums, Rubycon and Ricochet. Ricochet was something of a faux live album, culled from several live performances in 1975 with a solo piano intro actually recorded in a studio. Instead of a live document, it’s a definitive Tangerine Dream recording full of sequencer grooves, swirling effects and occasional solos. This was the classic line-up of Tangerine Dream with Froese, Christoph Franke and Peter Baumann. We revisit Ricochet on Echoes.
