The cello isn’t your father’s classical instrument anymore. It’s not even Yo-Yo Ma’s. Jami Sieber is one of the musicians who made it that way. She was at the leading edge of a new generation of cellists taking the most soulful of symphonic strings in new directions, looping her cello and using electric guitar-style effects. Jami Sieber takes a more serene approach than most of them, joining cellists like David Darling, Zoe Keating and Rena Jones in creating an ambient chamber music. Her 2008 album, Unspoken, was an Echoes CD of the Month. Jami came by Echoes to play music from her latest album, Timeless, live.
