Following on the previous Blog entry, I forgot to note two other fine guitarists on the show, Don Peris and The California Guitar Trio. Many of you heard Don Peris playing live last night on Echoes. Philadelphia will get him tonight and others on weekend Echoes broadcasts, (including XM).
Don played the perfect parlor music for the perfect concert, a little nostalgic, quite a bit wistful, and beautifully played with Don’s electric accompanied by double-bass and acoustic guitar. I think I might have liked it even more than his album, Go When the Morning Shineth. And Don was a pleasure to talk with: wry, shy and amusing.
Tonight (Friday)and Monday in Philly, many will hear a rebroadcast of the California Guitar Trio performance from a few months back. They were actually in to record a session for our Sonic Seasonings 2006 show, but since we had them here and they were inaugurating our new living room, we had them do a regular session as well. CGT are monsters of precision. You can get lost in the intricacy and interplay of their performance, which also happens to have some great tunes. They played a beautiful new piece written by Jon Anderson from Yes that has yet to be recorded.
Finally, just a forward note that Tommy Emmanuel came in today and just wiped the floor with some of his most gorgeous compositions and of course, impeccable playing. Watch for his show, probably in June, and for his forthcoming album, The Mystery. Tommy is currently on tour and he is well worth catching.
Here are his tour dates.
