CLARA PONTY'S EMBRACE
On her second CD, "The Embrace," (Philips) pianist Clara Ponty
brings in world music percussion and ambient atmospheres to
surround her serene, often romantic piano melodies. In her
Manhattan home, Clara talks about her new music and works out a
piece with percussionist Mino Cinelu.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH GARY STROUTSOS
Gary Stroutsos isn't a Native American, but he may be the most
gifted virtouso of the Native American flute. His latest album is
"People of the Willows" (Makoche) featuring arrangements of songs
from the Mandan and Hidatsa tribes. In Seattle, where Gary lives,
we captured him with his ensemble of Jose Santos Neto on piano and
percussionist Epaminondas Trimis weaving delicate Native melodies
into a global landscape.

AN ECHOES FEATURE: JOJI HIROTA
Joji Hirota is the percussionist with Trisan, the Irish Asian group
that creates an ethereal world fusion. On his own, Joji combines
classical impressionism with Japanese folk songs and percussion
landscapes heard on a new CD called "The Gate" (Realworld).

EDGAR MEYER & JOSHUA BELL: CLASSICAL BLUEGRASS
Take one classically trained and bluegrass bent bass player, mix
with one classical violin virtuoso and add in a mandolin wizard and
string eclectic and you have a pretty interesting sonic combustion
taking place. That's what happens on Short Trip Home (Sony
Classical) when Edgar Meyer, Joshua Bell, Sam Bush and Mike
Marshall get together for some original bluegrass chamber music. We
talk with all four about their musical marriage.
