IRA STEIN-BACH IMPROVISATIONS
Johann Sebastian Bach has always been a source of inspiration for
modern musicians. In the 60s, Dave Brubeck adapted a Bach fugue
for "Blue Rondo ala Turk," Procol Harum lifted another for "A
Whiter Shade of Pale," Wendy Carlos launched the synthesizer with
"Switched-On Bach" and the entire classical rock movement was
built on the Bach's back. Now pianist Ira Stein is taking a
swing at the baroque master. Best known for his New Age hit,
"The Underground" in the duo of Ira Stein & Russell Walder, he
now has a new album called "Bach Improvisations," setting Bach
chorales for his chamber trio of cello and saxophone. And like
Bach, Stein also plays in a church. We go to church to talk with
Ira Stein about improvising on Bach.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH SPACECRAFT
Strap yourself in, close your eyes and take off in a virtual
planetarium as we hear a living room concert from Spacecraft.
This trio of synthesizers, guitar and voice, disembark in the
Echoes living room and set the skies rolling with their retro-
space music sound. We'll hear them play music from their latest
CD, Hummel (Lektronic Soundscapes) as well as new music.

RICHARD LEO JOHNSON-ACOUSTIC AXE VICTIM
Richard Leo Johnson was born and raised in Arkansas and that's
where he picked up a uniquely aggressive approach to the acoustic
guitar that recalls Michael Hedges. Playing mostly 12 string, he
hammers, slams and plucks his guitar to create a mutated
orchestra of melodies that have hints of jazz, country, blues and
folk. We caught up with Richard just as his debut album,
"Fingertip Ship" (Metro Blue) was about to be released.
