SPOOL: IMPROVISATIONS ON MOOD
Spool is a quartet of musicians creating an ambient
improvisational music that draws from jazz and electronics, Bill
Evans and Pink Floyd. Their music is the sound of late evenings
and film noir bars 2 minutes before closing time. Keyboardist
Jhno and John Ridenour talk about their improvisational approach
to mood on their self-titled debut, Spool (New Dog Records).

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH ARYEH FRANKFURTER
Aryeh Frankfurter doesn't often perform in his living room. He's
usually found at places like San Francisco's Ghiradelli Square
performing for tourists. But we caught Aryeh at home, where he
took out his Celtic harp and plucked the melodies of his latest
album, Harp Songs of the Midnight Sun (LionHarp), playing songs
from Ireland and Scandinavia.

TEN TRENDS FOR TEN YEARS OF ECHOES: NEW ACOUSTIC MUSIC
With the advent of modern instrumental music came a new sound for
old instruments. It was a style that was neither folk nor
classical, but emerged out of both to breathe new life into
traditional instruments. New Acoustic Music revitalized the
acoustic guitar, gave a new avenue of expression for solo
pianists and conjured up a world of unusual ensembles working an
acoustic chamber sound. We'll hear from George Winston, Michael
Hedges, Nightnoise, and more talking about New Acoustic Music.

MONK-NOT MONASTIC
Ric Hordinski is a musician between worlds. He's a singer-
songwriter who used to be a member of the group, Over the Rhine,
but he's also an ambient composer. As Monk, he sculpts low-tech
dreamscapes for guitars and other instruments on Hush (Ether).
Yet, when he plays live, he surrounds himself with tablas,
djembes and other world music sounds. We go between the lines
with this Cincinnati based musician.
