The midnight martini lounge goes psychedelic in the Echoes New Year’s Eve Chillout Room.

MICHAEL BROOK’S SECRET SOURCES
We discover the influences in the music of Michael Brook
Michael Brook has been at the bleeding edges of new music, working with Jon Hassell and Brian Eno, collaborating with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Djivan Gasparyan, scoring films like An Inconvenient Truth and recording his own albums like last year’s RockPaperScissors. Now, Michael Brook’s album BellCurve has been listed in the Top 25 of both Echoes 2007 Polls and his soundtrack for Into the Wild has just been released. In his Los Angeles studio, we play and Michael comments on music that influenced his career and some that he has influenced.

In 1976, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Indian tabla wizard Zakir Hussain created the Diga Rhythm Band. In 1991 that morphed into Planet Drum and now they return with the Global Drum Project. We gather the two percussionists to talk about creating their 21st century global percussion orchestra.
