SONIC SEASONINGS 2003: LIVING ROOM CONCERTS FOR CHRISTMAS
WITH Philip Aaberg, Barbara Higbie, The Mediaeval Baebes, and
Vince Redhouse.
Sonic Seasonings is two hours of seasonal songs like
you've never heard them before and new compositions that evoke
the mood and atmosphere of the season, all recorded live in living
rooms from London to Tucson. Pull up a chair with John Diliberto
for some intimate music for a winters eve.
This year on Sonic Seasonings, The Mediaeval Baebes
bring their medieval plainsong, intoning the chants and carols
of their new album, MISTLETOE & WINE in their home in London.
In Tucson, Arizona, Navajo Native flute player Vince
Redhouse creates desert fantasies on Christmas themes with Native
American flute, acoustic guitars and percussion.
Two musicians long associated with Windham hill Records
and their Winter's Solstice series invite us into their living
rooms. From Montana, Grammy-nominated pianist Philip Aaberg comes
to the Echoes living room. He performs a mix of evocative originals
and seasonal favorites from his album Christmas, inspired by the
vast winter landscapes of his Montana home.
And in San Francisco's East Bay, Barbara Higbie becomes
a chamber folk ensemble playing piano, Celtic harp and fiddle
along with guitarist Nina Gerber.
Thursday 12/25/03
CHRISTMAS ECHOES The perfect music for digesting that Christmas dinner. We'll
hear evocative and inventive renditions of Christmas favorites
from artists who are staples of the Echoes soundscape, including
new seasonal collections from The Angels of Venice, Peter Kater
and the new A Windham Hill Christmas 2.
Friday 12/26/03
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH HAROLD BUDD Pianist and composer Harold Budd plays a solo concert live
on Echoes. Budd was in on the ground floor of ambient music,
recording on Brian Eno's Obscure label and releasing AMBIENT 2:
PLATEAUX OF MIRROR. On Budd's new album, LA BELLA VISTA (Shout
Factory Records) he teams up with his old cohort, producer Daniel
Lanois, for a series of solo piano meditations. We'll hear him
recreate the experience in a spontaneous performance live on Echoes.
