RICHARD LEO JOHNSON - WHIPLASH IMPRESSIONISM
Richard Leo Johnson turned a few heads, and knocked a few others
off with his album, FINGERTIP SHIP, early last year. Now
he's returned with a follow-up album that continues his quirky
relationship with the acoustic guitar. Language is full
of twisted impressionism and odd angels, as Johnson orchestrates
a finger ballet on his double-necked acoustic 6&12 String
Guitar. He's still playing fast, but he slows down long
enough to talk about his new journey into the fretboard and beyond.

ERIK WOLLO'S ELECTRONIC WINTERGARDENS
When we visited Norway in 1996, we traveled across the fiords
to talk with
Erik Wollo. This electronic composer has been recording since
the early
1980s, playing in groups like Celeste with Oystein Sevag and Bendik
Hofseth. His 1998 album Guitar Nova has just been released in
the U.S. for
the first time. We'll take you into his Wintergarden Studio to
hear some
samples of his music and talk about the impact of his Northern
home on his
music.

PATRICK LEONARD: STILL WATERS RUNNING DEEP
Pianist Patrick Leonard has written hits for Madonna, including
"Like A Prayer" and "Frozen" and produced
albums for her and Jewel. But on his own, he creates an Americana
chamber music heard on his debut album, RIVERS (Unitone).
RIVERS is a musical diary of a fly-fishing expedition in Wyoming
and Montana. We talk with Patrick Leonard about his pianistic
portraits and his intersection with high pop.

ECHOES TECHNO-TRIBAL NEW YEARS STOMP
Each New Year, ECHOES revs up the Beats-Per-Minute and kicks out
the jams for a New Year's Eve Techno-Tribal celebration.
Drawing from the same well-springs of the usual ECHOES soundscape,
ECHOES forms a seamless path into the new year, with music that
dances in your head. John Diliberto matches beats
and mixes atmospheres, riding the pulse of some of the newest
ambient and techno-tribal music, creating the ultimate New Years
