ECHOES PLAYLIST
For the Week of December 14, 1998
The following playlist is for one (1) week of ECHOES programming (5 days, 2
hours per day). Your local station may run only certain segments or one
day of programming from this week's list especially if you hear Echoes on a
weekend. Your station may also reverse the hours of Echoes, so that half
hours 3&4 become 1&2.
**************************************************************************
* We are pleased to offer many of the recordings you hear on ECHOES *
* through our ECHODISC catalog. Following the playlist you'll find *
* pricing of recordings from the catalog. If an album is not listed *
* with a price that means it is not available through ECHODISC. *

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK

ALEX DE GRASSI-RELAX AND FLOAT UPSTREAM
Alex de Grassi is the virtuoso finger-picking guitarist who helped launch
Windham Hill records in the 1970s. Now he's launching his own label, Tropo
Music with a new CD called The Watergarden. We talk with Alex about his
first solo guitar album in nearly a decade.

MARY JANE LAMOND-SPINNING WOOL AND MUSIC
In England, Scotland, Ireland and even Galicia, new generations of
musicians are rediscovering their Celtic Roots. But instead of becoming
traditionalists, they're becoming synthesists, creating modern hybrids with
their ancient heritage. This effect is also taking place on Cape Breton in
Nova Scotia. It's a stronghold of traditional Scottish culture where
singer Mary Jane Lamond has been unearthing traditional milling songs and
other tunes sung in the Scott's Gaelic dialect. On her album "SUAS E!,"
she weds these songs to modern rhythms and ambiences. Mary Jane Lamond
talks about spinning wool and music.

ECHOES OF 1998-25 ESSENTIAL ECHOES CDS
As we begin the millennial countdown, we take one look back at 1998. John
Diliberto visits the shaman who tosses CDs and bones into the air to come
up with the best Echoes albums of the last year. We'll play all 25
Essential Echoes CDs from 1998.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH THE MEDIAEVAL BAEBES
The Mediaeval Baebes are 12 singers based in England who specialize in
vocal music from the Middle Ages. On their album, Salva Nos (Virgin), they
sing songs that are over 600 years old, but with a decidedly modern, edgy
attitude. We gathered The Mediaeval Baebes in the living room for a
concert of ancient sounds.
