FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 12/16/02
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH THE MEDIAEVAL BAEBES
Nothing better than some Mediaeval plainsong for the holidays. So we'll revisit this concert where England's Mediaeval Baebes come into the Echoes Living Room to sing their madrigals and plainsong live. The Mediaeval Baebes are a vocal choir from England who have taken Mediaeval poetry and songs and cast them across 8 beautiful voices. Neither an updating nor a faithful recreation, the Baebes write most of their own melodies, but in an ancient style, using poetry from and writings in Latin and Early English. Their latest CD, The Rose (Nettwerk America) is their most gorgeous yet. John Diliberto sits in the middle of the Mediaeval Baebes as they intone their chants.

Tuesday 12/17/02
A FANTASY SOUNDTRACK FOR THE LORD OF THE RINGS
On the eve of the release of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, Echoes creates a fantasy soundtrack of music inspired by the J.R.R. Tolkien novels. It's the music you wish had been used on the film soundtrack including music from Sally Oldfield's THE WATERBEARER and two artists who took their names from the novels, Gandalf and Shadowfax. It's a journey through Middle Earth in a Lord of the Rings Suite.

Wednesday 12/18/02
NICHOLAS GUNN'S AMERICAN LANDSCAPES
Nicholas Gunn makes his living from the land. He's not a farmer. He's a flute player who has been crafting compositions inspired by the natural wonders of America. It began in 1991 with his album, AFTERNOON IN SEDONA and continues through MUSIC OF THE GRAND CANYON and his latest, THROUGH THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS (Gemini Sun Records). Gunn's music isn't chirping crickets and babbling brooks. ALong with his flute he uses dynamic African percussion and synthesizers to create his environmentally friendly music. He talks about it on Echoes.

Friday 12/20/02
AN ECHOES WINTER SOLSTICE
Echoes greets the longest night of the year with a Winter's Solstice Celebration. With not a carol in earshot, we paint a winter's landscape in sound, pristine and serene. Includes music from Windham Hill Winter Solstice collections, the Celtic/Scandinavian/German group, Norland Wind, and Monk's "How Like A Winter."
