MICHAEL JON FINK'S ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS Michael Jon Fink comes from the California school of minimalism
which tends to be a bit cerebral and understated. On his album,
I HEAR IT IN THE RAIN (Cold Blue), he gathers small chamber ensembles
that waxes impressionistic airs, conjuring up Tibetan monks and
time slipping away. We talk with Michael as well as his cohorts,
guitarist Rick Cox, clarinetist Marty Walker and pianist Bryan
Pezzone about the music between the notes.
Tuesday 12/18/01
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JANE SIBERRY Jane Siberry has always been the Thomas Pynchon of singer/songwriters,
spinning out convoluted tales rife with esoteric references, but
dipping at the edges of modern culture. She has consistently defined
conventional song-structure, turning her uncanny voice around
stream-of-consciousness digressions and side-long glances and
unique arrangements. Her latest album is a collection of collaborations
called CITY (Sheeba Records) that includes her work with Hector
Zazou and Barney, the purple dinosaur. Jane Siberry comes to the
Echoes living to sing her songs, accompanied only by electric
guitar and electric keyboard.
Wednesday 12/19/01
VANGELIS: A KEYBOARD GOD IN THE TEMPLE OF ZEUS Vangelis is an icon of synthesizer music. His 1970s albums,
HEAVEN & HELL and ALBEDO 0.39 were space music classics. His
score to the 1981 film, CHARIOTS OF FIRE was the first ever electronic
film score to win an academy award. Vangelis rarely gives interviews,
but in Greece, we captured him while he recording the PBS concert
film in the Temple of Zeus for his album, MYTHODEA (Sony Classical).
Vangelis talks about his classical music opus and his method of
spontaneous composition.

AN ECHOES WINTER SOLSTICE Echoes greets the longest night of the year with a Winter's
Solstice Celebration. With not a carol in earshot, we paint a
winter's landscape in sound, pristine and serene. Includes music

CDs.
