DEAN DE BENEDICTIS: DIGGING BELOW THE SURFACE

Dean De Benedictis makes an introspective brand of electronica full of literary and mystical references. He records under his own name and as Surface 10 and has also started an electronic community in Los Angeles called the Fateless Flow Collective. His latest CD, SALVAGING THE PAST (Spotted Peccary) is a recording of emotional resonance as De Benedictis looks back at his music, fusing elements of German space music, glitch electronica, operatic vocals and his Native flutes. I`n his studio, with jets from LAX overhead and Rte 405 outside his window, De Benedictis reflects on his latest album.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH VIC HENNEGAN

It doesn't take a lot of equipment to be an electronic musician these days. Which is why Vic Hennegan can take over his tiny dining area just off his galley kitchen in Los Angeles and set up his gear. That's where he sat to play a Living Room Concert for Echoes. Vic Hennegan grew up on the progressive rock of Genesis and space music by Tangerine Dream that he heard on the local college station, WXPN. For the last several years, he’s been working in Los Angeles, creating music from techno grooves to ambient chill. His latest album is DESERT GOD (Space for Music). Vic Hennegan plays live, on Echoes.

BAKA BEYOND: SHAKING THE RHYTHM TREE

Baka Beyond have been working at the intersection of Pygmy music and Celtic music for a dozen years since their debut, SPIRIT OF THE FOREST. The band has perfected a synergy where Scottish Mouth music merges with pygmy chants and Celtic Aires coalesce with Pygmy lullabies. Their latest album is RHYTHM TREE(March Hare Music) and it shows the group moving in a more acoustic direction. We talk with Baka Beyond founders Martin Craddick and Su Hart.
