ECHOES NOVEMBER CD OF THE MONTH:
PATRICK O'HEARN'S BEAUTIFUL WORLD Pioneering electronica and ambient artist Patrick O'Hearn
returns with a new CD of dark melancholy moods and deeply textural
ruminations. Joined once again by longtime musical compatriot,
guitarist Peter Maunu, O'Hearn conjures up Ennio Morricone dipped
in an ambient bath on tracks like "Magnificent River."
A composer who uses melody with the sparing efficacy of Erik
Satie, but the emotional impact of Samuel Barber, Patrick O'Hearn
writes music for the edge of the world. Beautiful World is our
Echoes CD of the Month for November.
Tuesday 11/11/03
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH BARRY CLEVELAND Barry Cleveland is one of those forgotten but not gone figures
of progressive music. He made his debut in the early 1980s on
the defunct Audion label with music of layered guitars and free
improvisation. He recently released his first new album in 13
years, Volcano (Amp Music) as well as a collection of his early
work called Memory & Imagination (Right Brain Records). Barry
Cleveland comes to Echoes with an all-star group including bassist
Michael Manring to play a couple of songs live.
Wednesday 11/12/03
PSYCHETROPIC: ARIZONA AMBIENCES As Psychetropic, Todd Fletcher takes the hunt for new sounds
to an extreme, throwing away his synthesizer settings after finishing
each song. This search for unexpected sonic textures has resulted
in recordings that range from lush world music simulations to
dance music for the empty desert. He distributes his music in
tiny batches on his own Microrelease label.
Friday 11/14/03
CODE INDIGO: DECIPHERING TIME CODE Code Indigo is a collective of English musicians that includes
veteran synthesists David Wright and Robert Fox. In their studios
in the Suffolk countryside, they unlock the secrets of their new
CD, TIME CODE (AD Music), which takes a more electro-symphonic
approach to space music and includes the ethereal vocals of Louise
Eggerton.
