RALF ILLENBERGER: GERMAN PRECISION/SEDONA MOODS Ralf Illenberger was at the leading edge of the modern instrumental
movement. Since his first album in 1977, the German born musician
has released several recordings of evocative chamber fusion music,
mixing his intricate finger-picking guitar techniques with synthesizers,
guitarist Martin Kolbe, sax player Budi Siebert and Andreas Vollenweider's
rhythm section. In his closet-sized home studio in Sedona, Arizona,
Ralf Illenberger talks about his journey from Germany to Sedona
and the music that took him there.
Friday 11/07/03
LOOP GURU TAKES A BATH Loop Guru is the longtime ethno-techno band from England,
willfully lifting samples from records that go across cultures
and time, re-mixing them into their own, often atmospheric, rhythmically
pulsing compositions. This year they released their first CD in
5 years, BATHTIME WITH LOOP GURU (Hypnotic Records). We enter
the studio of Loop Guru co-founder Dave Muddyman and his partner
in sonic crime, Sam Dodson, to talk about their latest formulation.
