FEATURES FOR THE WEEK Monday October 25, 1999 SPACECRAFT TAKES OFF Spacecraft is a trio of musicians from Kentucky and Tennessee updating the mid-period sound of Tangerine Dream in vintage space music excursions. Their latest album, Hummel, was recorded in the planetarium of the same name. Inspired by NASA audio recordings, Spacecraft disembark for a few moments at Echoes to talk about electronic music in the space age. Tuesday October 26, 1999 NATIVE AMERICAN CHAMBER MUSIC We've been getting a lot of Native American music in lately, and a lot of that music is taking on a distinctly classical, chamber music fee. R. Carlos Nakai just did an album with orchestra, Gary Stroutsos had Hidatsa songs arranged for strings and Robert Mirabal is calling his new album, "Taos Tales," "Reservation Chamber Music." The sound of the native flute, in particular, seems suited for these more intimate, quasi-classical settings. We'll be exploring the sounds of Native American chamber music. Thursday October 28, 1999 ANNE DUDLEY-THE ART OF NOISE VS THE CLASSICAL ARTS Anne Dudley is an enigmatic figure. She's a founding member of The Art of Noise, the British group that pioneered cut & paste sampling married to dance beats in the 1980s. She's also a noted film composer with pictures like "Buster," "The Full Monty" and "American History X" under her belt. And she's a classically trained keyboardist. In recent months, Anne Dudley has released a new Art of Noise CD, "The Seduction of Claude Debussy," adding dance beats to the impressionist's melodies, and she has a solo album,"Ancient and Modern," (Angel) re-arranging carols, hymns and fugues for orchestra. We talk to Dudley about her musical balancing act. Friday October 29, 1999 A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH TIM STORY AND HANS-JOACHIM ROEDELIUS Tim Story is a minor legend in the world of ambient chamber music. He's been recording albums since the early 1980s with releases on the Windham Hill and Hearts of Space labels including "Glass Green" and "The Perfect Flaw." Tim's music is noted for its haunting melodies and arrangements that merge orchestral instruments with synthesizer ambiences. Hans-Joachim Roedelius is known as one half of the German duo Cluster and for dozens of solo recordings released in the last 3 decades. These two artists get together in the Echoes Living Room playing ambient duets and trios with violist Jovanina Pagano. ***************************************************************** *denotes compilation ID# 99-J07-00212 Monday, October 25, 1999 (Echoes Program 21E) ARTIST SELECTION RECORDING First Half Hour Alkymia Datura Alkymia Chris Spheeris Island of 1000 Mystic Traveller Temples Keola Beamer Kauhale O Kamapua'a Kolonahe Vas The Promise Offerings Mark Dwane Lifeforms The Nefilim Second Half Hour FEATURE: SPACECRAFT TAKES OFF Spacecraft Hummel Hummel David Andrew Wolf Persistence of Vision Pearson Shastro Owl's Dream Shambala Third Half Hour Deuter Gratitude Sands of Time William Watson Garden of Zen Burnham Woods Cornerstone Shoemaker-Levy 9 Out of the Blue Nana Simopoulos Midnight After the Moon Fourth Half Hour Tim Story These Few Words Beguiled Uakti Music from a Trilobyte Greek Temple Sarah Brightman In Paradisum Eden David Helpling Stormchaser Between Green & Blue Dogon Chet's Dream Redunjusta Ottmar Liebert Desert Elysium Innamorare ****************************************** WANT TO ADD ANY OF THESE CDS TO YOUR COLLECTION?
