His first two albums were in the upper reaches of Billboard Magazine's New Age Charts. On his newest album, "Vertigo" (Narada) Cook continues to expand his style, embracing Algerian rhythms and Bhangra grooves. Jesse Cook talks about his moodier new album that includes Buckwheat Dural and Holly Cole. Tuesday, October 27, 1998 A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH SCOTT HUCKABAY Guitarist Scott Huckabay takes his acoustic guitar and plugs in for an expansive concert of guitar soundscapes. Huckabay uses delays, reverbs, and other effects and couples them with his intricate two handed plucking techniques for music that sounds like it must be made by three or four guitar players. But it's just Scott Huckabay. Scott plays music from his recent CD "Peace Dance" (Soundings of the Planet) and some new music. Wednesday, October 28, 1998 STEVE TIBBETTS IN TIBET Guitarist Steve Tibbetts has been making pilgrimages to India for years. On his last few trips, however, he's been recording a group of Tibetan nuns led by Choying Drolma. He's taken their sacred chants, recorded in Tibetan Shrines, and framed them with his own ambient orchestrations. The results are the album, "Cho". Tibbetts talks about the nuns, their music and his transformation of their music. Thursday, October 29, 1998 LOVE SPIRALS DOWNWARDS: MUSIC AND MINDS IN FLUX Love Spirals Downwards is a duo that has chartered the ethereal world of post-Cocteau Twins music with the haunting, wordless vocals of Suzanne Perry and the textured music of Ryan Lum. "Flux" is their first album since they broke up as a couple and the trip-hop beats seem to represent the fracturing of their relationship. We gather them both in a room to sort out a group in flux. Friday, October 30, 1998 LUIS PEREZ: PRE-COLOMBIAN SOUNDSCAPES Luis Perez is a Mexican musician who specializes in Pre-Colombian instruments. Those are the stones, stick, bones and vessel flutes that were around before Columbus hit these shores. Luis has played with Huayucaltia and Kitaro. On his solo album, "Tales of Astral Travelers" (Domo), he wraps these instruments in lush arrangements of synthesizers and strings. Luis brings some of his instruments and talks about ancient music in a modern world. ***************************************************************** *denotes compilation ID# 98-J07-00213 Monday, October 26, 1998 (Echoes Program X-33) ARTIST SELECTION RECORDING First Half Hour David Pritchard Driven Just One Look Jeff Johnson Nothing Immortal Prayer for St. Brenden John Serrie Vision Quest Spirit Keepers Will Miller Beltain Celtic Seasons of Enchantment Stewart Copeland End Titles Little Boy Blue Second Half Hour David Michael & Moonlight Waltz Courtship Of Randy Mead The Moon Alex de Grassi The Water Garden The Water Garden MOX Bubble MOX Angels of Venice Si Je Perdais The Renaissance Mon Amour Album * TUU Water Memory Terma Third Half Hour Ken Bonfield Centerline Homecoming Robert Rich Lapis Seven Veils Wendy Luck Blue Star The Ancient Key Happy Rhodes Ra Is A Busy God Many Worlds Are Born Tonight Tingstad & Rumbel Medicine Tree American Acoustic Fourth Half Hour FEATURE: JESSE COOK'S FLAMENCO STEW Jesse Cook Breathing Below Vertigo The Surface Marina Raye Mother Love Woman Spirit Lisa Gerrard / Shadow Magnet Duality Pieter Bourke ****************************************** WANT TO ADD ANY OF THESE CDS TO YOUR COLLECTION?
