INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK
Tuesday 10/10
BT: BENT CIRCUITS & BINARY UNIVERSES
A master of dance electronica makes a progressive ambient masterpiece
BT earned his reputation as a techno-trance dance artist, spread his wings in soundtracks like Monster and has now created a work that takes ambient and electronica into new directions. This Binary Universe could be the Tubular Bells of the ’00s. BT is working at both the technological and emotional end of music. He designs many of his own instruments and programs and can get teary-eyed recalling a live performance or wax giddy when talking about his "bent circuits," essentially broken electronic toys like Furbies that he wires up and plays. We wire up BT in his LA home for an Echoes interview.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH AL DI MEOLA
A guitar fret burner plays an intimate solo acoustic set
Al Di Meola is a legend among electric guitarists for his work with Chick Corea's Return to Forever and through a string of solo recordings. But he's been concentrating on acoustic guitar for the last several years, playing his tango inspired world fusion. He has a new electric CD called Consequence of Chaos, but we catch him in an intimate solo acoustic performance in his New Jersey home.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH MICHAEL MANRING
A bass guitar mutant morphs deep DNA in a live performance
Saying Michael Manring plays the electric bass guitar just doesn't quite do it. He plucks his custom Zon bass guitar in a ballet of flying limbs and impossible pirouettes. Manring has appeared on just about every Windham Hill album that has an electric bass, has several albums of his own ranging from shredding metal to delicate chamber works, and recently put out a purely solo electric bass guitar CD, Soliloquy. Michael Manring comes into the Echoes Living Room to play live.
