A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH BEN NEILL
Orchestrated mutations
When Ben Neill mounts the stage, the only musician there is Ben Neill. But then the sound of trumpets multiplies and morphs as Neill plays his custom instrument, the mutantrumpet. Neill triggers electronics and transforms the sound of an instrument that is already bizarre, with three different bells, two sets of valves, a mini-trombone slide and electronics. He makes it hard on himself, but it sounds great when he plays live on Echoes.
