PAUL MACHLIS'S CELTIC KEYS
Paul Machlis is American born, but he's a veteran of the New Celtica. In
addition to several solo CDs, he's recorded with Alasdair Fraser, William
Coulter and Mary McLaughlin. His latest album Green Woods (Real Music)
explores the moods of Ireland. Paul talks about his Celtic infatuation.
Tuesday, September 8,1998 (Echoes Program X-29)
SPACE GUITARS
In this hour Echoes journeys into space, only it won't be on waves of
synthesizer orchestrations, but space guitars. We'll hear several
musicians who have recently been getting some interesting sounds and
ambiences from their instruments including Robert Fripp from King Crimson,
and J. Arif Verner. We'll also head back to one of the first space
guitarists, Manuel Gottshing, from the group Ash Ra Tempel. Set the tuning
pegs for the heart of the sun.
Wednesday September 9, 1998 (Echoes Program X-37)
DAVID LYNCH & JOCELYN MONTGOMERY: ABBESS OF THE ABYSS
Film Director David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet) and singer
Jocelyn Montgomery take a different look at Hildegard's music on their
album Lux Vivens (Living Light). In Lynch's Los Angeles studio they talk
about their swirling soundscape of drones and environmental sounds for
Hildegard's music.
Friday, September 11, 1998 (Echoes Program Z-37)
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH KEN BONFIELD
Ken Bonfield shares Leo Kottke's intricate finger-picking techniques and
casts them in an intimate setting that he calls Chamber Folk Music. We'll
hear Ken playing live in the Echoes living room with bassist Michael
Manring and violinist Joe Ebel. They'll perform music heard on Ken's
latest CD "Homecoming" (BWE) which Billboard Magazine called "a subtle and
inviting album that keeps revealing its charms over time."
