MUSIC REMEMBERS: AN ECHOES REQUIEM FOR 9-11
"The artists are the architects of heaven." - Bobby McFerrin
As America commemorates the five-year anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, Echoes will provide a respite from the analysis with music for healing and contemplation. A Requiem Soundscape will feature new music recorded in the aftermath of 9-11 and we'll hear the thoughts of musicians, their reactions, contemplations and responses to the terrorist attacks. Among them are Pat Metheny, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, singer Bobby McFerrin, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. We'll also hear new music, some of it composed exclusively for Echoes.

BEN VAUGHN: YESTERDAY'S SQUARE MUSIC TODAY
Ben Vaughn isn't afraid to say he loves easy listening music
Vaughn cut his teeth in Philadelphia's punk scene before forming the Ben Vaughn Combo, but he's best known for his retro-rock scores to TV programs like Third Rock from the Sun and That 70's Show. Vaughn recently indulged his love of 60s-era orchestral and combo music from the likes of Henry Mancini, 101 Strings and David Axelrod with an album called Designs in Music. Ben Vaughn talks about his soothingly hip blast from the past.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH TOMMY EMMANUEL
Tommy Emmanuel has our CD of the Month for September. It's called The Mystery and we'll hear him playing music from that album live on Echoes. Emmanuel is a formidable finger-style guitarist with a devoted legion of fret-pickers, but it's also his infectious melodies and wry wit that draw sell-out audiences to his performances. We'll hear it all when he takes a seat in the Echoes Living Room.

BEAR McCREARY: FROM SYNTHESIZERS TO CYLONS
The re-imagined version of Battlestar Galactica is one of the most original and engaging series to hit the small screen in a while and it features a score that's equally inventive. Using electronics, orchestras and global music elements, Bear McCreary creates a soundtrack for an often dark and foreboding science fiction fantasy. And when he isn't scoring the attacks of Cylons, he retires to his accordion. The third season of the series launches in October. Bear McCreary takes the controls in this interview.

DON PERIS: PARLOR MUSIC AND MOVIES
Guitarist creates parlor music for home movies in nostalgic tones
Don Peris grew up and still lives in Lancaster, PA, where he works with his wife, singer Karen Peris in a band called The Innocence Mission. But recently Don released a solo, mostly instrumental CD called Go When the Morning Shineth. It's a wistful, nostalgic recording of intimate guitar melodies and subtle backing. He says the initial concept of the album was to create soundtracks for old Super 8 home movies, of people he didn't even know. We screen his vision in an Echoes interview.
