A DEPARTURE LOUNGE CONCERT WITH BANG ON A CAN
In this special Echoes we take a seat in the Departure Lounge for a live
performance with Bang On A Can performing Brian Eno's MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS.
The Bang On A Can All-Stars gather with mallet percussion, piano, guitar,
cello, bass, clarinets and keyboards for an entrancing performance of two
works drawn from Brian Eno's influential 1978 album and re-invented by Bang
on A Can on their CD, MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS (Point Music).
AND
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH LIZ STORY
LIZ STORY returns to the Echoes Living room for another performance of her
evocative works for piano. On her latest album, 17 SECONDS TO ANYWHERE
(Windham Hill), Story returns to recording her own compositions,
introspective works that make her rise high above the glut of solo
pianists.
Tuesday, August 25,1998 (Echoes Program W-35)
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH PAUL WINTER
Echoes couldn't go to the Grand Canyon, so Paul Winter brings the Grand
Canyon to Echoes. With his soprano saxophone and the sounds of the Grand
Canyon he transforms the Echoes living room into an environmental
landscape. Paul plays original improvisations based on themes from his
latest album, Canyon Lullaby (Living Music) which was recorded in the Grand
Canyon.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH THE CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO
These disciples of Robert Fripp bring their precision guitar work and
intricate, interwoven sound to the Echoes living room. Whether playing
originals or startling arrangements of Beethoven's Fifth, the California
Guitar Trio create an entrancing sound born in disciplined ensemble work.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JOHN DOAN
John Doan plays harp guitar, an instrument that combines a conventional
acoustic six string with open bass & treble strings replicating the sound
of a harp. We'll hear John Doan weave an intricate filigree as he plays
music live from his new album, EIRE-ISLE OF THE SAINTS (Hearts of Space)
AND
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH LISA GERRARD & PIETER BOURKE
The Echoes living room is graced with the voice of Lisa Gerrard, the
possessed singer from Dead Can Dance. Joined by Pieter Bourke on keyboards
and vocals, they perform music from their new album, DUALITY (4AD/Warner
Bros.) which album that immerses you in tribal dances and meditative
states. It's an enchanting, and mesmerizing performance.
Thursday, August 27,1998 (Echoes Program Y-35)
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH PAUL MACHLIS
Paul Machlis is American born, but he's a veteran of the New Celtica. In
addition to several solo CDs, he's recorded with Alasdair Fraser, William
Coulter and Mary McLaughlin. We'll hear Paul playing new music from his
album, GREEN WOODS (Real Music). He's joined by guitarist William Coulter,
violinist Deby Benton Grosjean and uilleann piper in an intimate
performance.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH IRINA MIKHAILOVA
Irina Mikhailova transforms a Bay Area living room into an exotic and
ethereal celebration, singing music from her album, RUSSIAN TWILIGHT (Well-
Tempered World). Irina is joined by and ensemble that includes cello,
sarangi, oud, violin and two frame drummers. Together they weave a pan-
global music born from the folk and classical music of Irina's homeland in
Kazakstan.
Friday, August 28,1998 (Echoes Program Z-35)
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH CLARA PONTY
Clara Ponty sits down at a grand piano and plays the beautiful melodies of
her eponymous debut album. The daughter of fusion violinist Jean-Luc
Ponty, Clara brings that same sense of memorable melody to her music in
this intimate performance.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH GEIST & MAUREEN BRENNAN
Celtic harpist Diana Stork recently produced a collection of harpists
called HARPESTRY (Imaginary Road). We went to her house Berkeley where she
gather her group, Geist and another Celtic harpist, Maureen Brennan, for an
Living Room Concert of tapped and plucked strings.
