MARCONI UNION: TAPPING THE WIRELESS ETHER
Electronic duo orchestrates the static of ether into ambient expanses
Out of the industrial northern lands of Manchester, England, the duo called Marconi Union seem to orchestrate ambient ballets out of atmospheric static. James Crossley and Richard Talbot met in a record shop and began connecting their laptop computers and electric guitar for ambient tone poems that emerge out of the ether as if they were dialing in a lost broadcast on an old radio tuner. In a London studio, Marconi Union plugs in and talks about their northern soundscapes.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH MICHAEL BROOK
Progressive guitarist plays cinematic tone poems live
Michael Brook is a quiet legend in ambient and new music circles. After coming on the scene as a Brian Eno disciple and defining ambient guitar with his album, Hybrid, he's gone on to become a leading world fusion collaborator, making seminal albums with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Djivan Gasparyan, among others. Brook's new CD, rockpaperscissors, compresses 14 years of experience into a CD over-flowing with ideas. He condenses them down to a provocative live set on Echoes, highlighting his infinite guitar.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH LEO ABRAHAMS
Guitar Loops in Pastoral Landscapes
In a dank basement studio in London, Leo Abrahams plugs his guitar into an array of effects, loops and processing, and plays music from his albums, Honey Trap and Scene Memory live on Echoes. It's just Leo, but it sounds like a band of guitarists, all with impeccable taste.

STEVE HILLAGE: MIRRORS OF SOUND
Ambient Avatar still mixing musical alchemy
Steve Hillage was a member of the quintessential edition of the psychedelic band Gong and he unintentionally created one of the blueprints of ambient music with his Rainbow Dome Musick recording some 27 years ago. He has spent the 90s with his partner and synthesist Miquette Giraudy performing techno as System 7 and now have a new configuration for Chill-out music, Mirror System. We look into a mirror darkly in an interview with Steve Hillage & Miquette Giraudy.
