A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH MAGICAL STRINGS
Magical Strings is the longtime, Washington state-based duo who've been bringing Celtic music across the country for 25 years. Philip Boulding is a virtuoso of the Celtic harp and his wife Pam is a denizen of the hammered dulcimer. Together they weave an enchanting sound, mixing original music with traditional Celtic themes. Their latest album is WHERE DRAGONS DANCE (Alula Records). Magical Strings brings their musical incantations into the Echoes Living Room where they play live.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JAI UTTAL AND BEN LEINBACH
Jai Uttal is a pioneer of world fusion whose last appearance on Echoes was in 1991. Jai is a scholar of Indian music, especially the stringed instrument called the dotar and the singing style called Kirtan. His latest album is MUSIC FOR YOGA AND OTHER JOYS (Sounds True Records). He teams up with multi-instrumentalist Ben Leinbach, and Nepalese bansuri flute player, Manose, in a series of serene improvisations, meditations and chants, recorded live in Jai's Marin County, California living room.

LORI CARSON: SONGS THAT WHISPER
Lori Carson has released several albums in what might be called the conventional singer-songwriter mode, but on her new CD, THE FINEST THING (Meta Records) she heads into ambient terrain with songs that whisper and instrumentals that recall Brian Eno-style ambiences. Carson travels down from her Long Island home to talk about her introspective music, recorded right in her home.

Friday 08/13/04
SUZANNE TENG: TRAVELING MILES
Suzanne Teng is a virtuoso flutist whose music has expanded beyond the silver flute to embrace more than 50 styles of flutes from across the world. She weaves these instruments into a sensuous global landscape with her husband, percussionist Gilbert Levy, and a host of fellow global travelers. Her album, MILES BEYOND was the Echoes CD of the Month for January of this year. In their Topanga Canyon home, Suzanne Teng and Gilbert Levy talk about their musical journey and recording their album at home with their son Miles sitting in a high chair in their studio.
