INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 07/23
AN INTERVIEW WITH STARR PARODI: PERSONAL PIANO
A former television musician finds her own voice

Starr Parodi cut her chops in the Arsenio Hall Band in the early 1990s and has played fusion keyboards with numerous artists. Now she spends her time with her husband, Jeff Fair, writing film soundtracks and movie trailers. Recently, she turned off her keyboards and sat at a piano for the ruminations of her album, Common Places. Starr Parodi and Jeff Fair talk about an album that mixes originals with unusual cover choices like Buffalo Springfield's for What It's Worth.

AN INTERVIEW WITH SINGLE CELL ORCHESTRA: MITOSIS IN A MICROCHIP
An electronic musician in a comic world

Single Cell Orchestra is the recording persona of Miguel Fierro. For more than a decade he's been making intricate, mind-expanding electronic music. We visit him in his Los Angeles apartment where we sit in his bedroom studio and talk about his father, jazz horn player Martin Fierro and Miguel's sideline as a stand-up comic. It's an electro-laugh riot, on Echoes.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH ACOUSTIC EIDOLON
Guitjo and cello in chamber music moods
Acoustic Eidolon is a duo from Colorado who create a folk-inflected chamber music based around the cello of Hannah Alkire and the guitjo of Joe Scott. It's a double-necked acoustic guitar with one neck struck like a banjo, although it usually sounds like a harp when Joe Scott plays it. They play music from across their career including their latest album, Barefoot.

AN INTERVIEW WITH AIR: SECRET SOURCES

Air debuts the Secret Sources Series on Echoes. No artist comes to music unformed by influences and few groups present more of an exotic array of influences than the French Duo, Air. We sat Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunkel down for a blindfold test and found some of the sources and influences on their eclectic music. They talk about music that's been the sound source of their lives and affected songs from "La Femme D'Argent" to "Spacemaker." This will appear on our myspace site, www.myspace.com/echoesspace.
