ECHOES AT THE MOVIES
It's time to grab some popcorn, an over-sized drink and a center
seat as Echoes goes to the movies this hour. I have some
soundtracks old and classic. On the classic side, Wendy Carlos's
harrowing score to A Clockwork Orange was re-issued recently.
We'll also hear the soundtrack I thought should have won the
Academy Award this year, Hans Zimmer's score to The Thin Red
Line.

CAROLYN CRUSO-LOSS & TRANSFORMATION
Since 1985, Carolyn Cruso has played hammered dulcimer and flute
in a duo with her partner, Robert Almblade. But when he died
suddenly a couple of years ago, Carolyn had to re-assess her
career. The result was the album, Transformation (Blue Heron),
which continues the chamber folk sound she'd explored with
Robert. We talk with Carolyn in her Seattle home.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH LISA LYNNE
In the comfort of her Los Angeles living room, Celtic harpist
Lisa Lynne gathers a quintet of fellow troubadours to play her
Renaissance inspired music from her latest CD, "Seasons of the
Soul (Windham Hill). Lisa's music is full of airy melodies and a
sound that could've come from an Elizabethan court that had a
1990s rhythmic sensibility.

TEN TRENDS FOR TEN YEARS OF ECHOES
WINDS OF THE MIDDLE-EAST
Early on in Echoes it seemed like a Middle Eastern fusion might
be emerging, and over the last year it's reappeared. Musicians
are entranced by the sensual rhythms and sinewy melodies that
come out of the Middle East, not to mention many of the
instruments. We'll hear some purveyors of Middle Eastern fusion
including Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Jamshied Sharifi, Vas, Sussan
Deyhim & Richard Horowitz. They talk about taking an ancient
music into a modern world. Middle Eastern Fusion, one of Ten
Trends for Ten Years of Echoes.
