CARYN LIN: JEAN-LUC HENDRIX IN THE 21ST CENTURY
Violinist plugs in and turns on an ambient chamber music sound
Caryn Lin started out as a classical violinist, but after hearing her instrument through an electronic echo, she became wired. She plays a space age-looking instrument with a guitarist's array of stomp boxes. She can whip it out like Hendrix, but tends towards a more pastoral, chamber orchestra sound, except the only person in the orchestra is Caryn Lin, multiplied though her loops and effects. Caryn talks about her new CD, THE CALL.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH LEO ABRAHAMS
Guitar Loops in Pastoral Landscapes
In a dank basement studio in London, Leo Abrahams plugs his guitar into an array of effects, loops and processing, and plays music from his albums, Honey Trap and Scene Memory live on Echoes. It's just Leo, but it sounds like a band of guitarists, all with impeccable taste.

ABSOLUTE AMBIENT: SAME COUNTRY, DIFFERENT ZONES
Strangers in Life, Fellow Travelers in Ambience
Matt Coldrick and Matt Hillier had never met when they started making music together over the internet. The results were the CD Elemental Journeys, one of the best and most spacious electronica albums from 2005, and well it should be. Hillier usually records as Ishq, a master of chilled ambience and Coldrick has a charming CD called Music for a Busy Head. In the Brighton countryside of England, we actually got them together in the same room to talk about ambient music and soundtracks for Hip Hop Princes.

EDGAR MEYER: SOLO BUT NOT ALONE
Classical country bassist goes the Mike Oldfield route
Edgar Meyer is a virtuoso bassist and a composer who's as likely to write a classical concerto as a country tune. We've heard him with Bela Fleck and Yo-Yo Ma among many other musicians. He could've gotten anyone to play on his new album, but instead, he did it all himself, multi-tracking bass piano and strings from classical to country. Edgar Meyer talks about his one man fantasy.
