AL DI MEOLA'S TANGO TANGENTS
Guitarist Al Di Meola has been enamored of tango music for the
better part of 20 years. Best known for his work with Chick Corea's
Return to Forever group and a string of burning solo fusion albums,
Di Meola goes for a more acoustic sound on his latest album, THE
GRANDE PASSION (Telarc) playing the compositions of Tango master
Astor Piazzolla and his own, evocative works. In his home studio
in North Jersey, Al Di Meola reveals the dance steps of his new
album.
Tuesday 06/05/01
JEFF PEARCE RIDES THE LOOP
Jeff Pearce has been entrancing listeners with his textural, ambient
guitar orchestrations since his debut album, TENDERNESS &
FATALITY (Windchime). His collaborations include work with Jon
Jenkins, Kevin Keller and Vidna Obmana. Although he often sounds
like multiple guitar players and a synthesizer, Jeff makes all
of his music on one electric guitar in played in real time with
no overdubs. Through a sophisticated system of looping and sound
processing, however, he transforms himself into an ambient orchestra.
From his home in Indiana, Jeff Pearce comes to the Echoes studio
to reveal the sonic architecture behind his music and latest albums,
TO THE SHORES OF HEAVEN and THE LIGHT BEYOND (Hypnos).

AN ECHOES LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH SHEILA CHANDRA
Hearing Sheila Chandra on record is glorious, hearing her perform
live is transcendent. The British born Indian singers trilogy
of albums, WEAVING MY ANCESTORS VOICES, ZEN KISS and ABONECRONEDRONE,
(Realworld) are the "Well-Tempered Clavier" of vocal
drone music. She's hardly performed live at all in the last five
years, but she enters the Echoes living with her virtual Ganges
Orchestra, to sing music from her latest album, THIS SENTENCE
IS TRUE (Shakti).

OTTMAR LIEBERT REVISITS HIS YOUTH
Ottmar Liebert is known for his innovative flamenco hybrid, but
he grew up listening to rock and roll. On a new CD called LITTLE
WING (EPIC) he revisits the music of his youth, playing songs
by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and the title track by Jimi
Hendrix. From his Sante Fe home, Liebert talks about his musical
influences as well as the new originals on his album.
