SAUL STOKES TINKERS AT TUNES
Saul Stokes has been called the "Popular Mechanics musician
of the year" because he builds his own instruments, stylish
futuristic constructions of blinking LEDs, patch cords and knobs.
These custom devices give this San Francisco area artist a distinctive
sound that's been heard on several recordings. On his latest CD
FIELDS (Hypnos), he realizes some surprisingly captivating melodies
out of his mechanical mayhem. In his garage studio, Saul Stokes
tinkers at tunes and some new instruments.

DEBORAH MARTIN: AMBIENT SAVANT We go inside Spotted Peccary studios to discover Deborah Martin,
a somewhat elusive musician and composer who has released two
solo albums and several collaborations over the last decade. Martin
is part of the Spotted Peccary label collective that includes
Jon Jenkins, David Helpling, Greg Klamt and at times, Steve Gordon
of David & Steve Gordon. She's even gotten bassist Tony Levin
on her CDs. Martin mixes mystical musings and ambient designs
on her albums, including a work in progress that's drawn from
her trip to Tibet.
