FEATURES FOR THE WEEK
Monday 04/25/05
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH KAKI KING In 2003, New York based guitarist Kaki King dazzled a lot
of listeners with her two-handed tapping techniques and ferocious
finger-style playing. The scary thing is, she's gotten even better
since then. She's just put out her second release, LEGS TO MAKE
US LONGER (Epic), an album of all original tunes that highlights
her technique and a gift for elliptical melodies. Kaki King comes
into the Echoes Living Room to play her music live.
Tuesday 04/26/05
DOUG WOOD: JOURNEYMAN GUITARIST Doug Wood is a journeyman guitarist living in Cleveland who
has been making a pastoral brand of acoustic guitar music that's
edged by a post-Michael hedges sensibility. Doug Wood talks about
the evolution of his sound.
Thursday 04/28/05
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JORANE Canadian singer-songwriter cellist, Jorane comes to Echoes
to reveal her intimate songs in our intimate living room, live.
There aren't too many singer-songwriters whose main instrument
is the cello. Jorane is a Canadian musician with several albums
released north of the border, but she's just put out her first
U.S. recording, THE YOU AND THE NOW (Six Degrees), a haunting
disc of luminous cello driven songs and Jorane's darkly insinuating,
hymn-like vocals. We hear her playing live, on Echoes.
Friday 04/29/05
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JAMI SIEBER Jami Sieber plays a cello that looks like a stick with a peg
leg on it. But plugging into a rack of electronic effects, she
turns herself into a one woman string orchestra. Echoes travels
to a living room in Berkeley, California where Jami Sieber plays
music from her latest CD, HIDDEN SKY (Out Front) live in an Echoes
Living Room Concert.
